Cyclingnews event promotion

Here at cyclingnews, we receive many requests from race organisers seeking to promote their events on the site. It is a natural medium for such promotions, as our readership is very extensive worldwide. Currently, the site is delivering close to 1 million page impressions per month from our primary server, which does not include the pages delivered by the servers operated by ISPs like America Online and Mindspring. In the case of cyclingnews, our site is cached (or copied) by on 12 servers operated by AOL, the largest ISP in the world.

What better way to inform bike riders of races that are on in your area!

To assist our readers and race organisers, we have recently developed a free race listings service, which allows club administrators and race organisers for non-UCI events to enter their race details on line. After processing, this information will be indexed by country, followed by brief and more detailed descriptions of the race. We anticipate that this will be a popular service among our readers (to say the least), and it will continue to enhance cyclingnews as a global resource for cyclists.

Increase your exposure

To increase the exposure and recognition for your race (and your sponsors) to our international audience, or even build a specific site which is linked to cyclingnews, we offer a variety of promotions for race organisers:

  • A basic listing, as described above, that can be accessed via the country listings page. This is a free service.
  • Banner advertising for your race, starting at US$30 per thousand page impressions (known as Cost Per Thousand, or CPM*). These banners can be placed in the Race Listings pages ($30 CPM) the main News and Results pages (US$50 CPM), or the prominent "Yellow Box" on the home page (US$85 CPM).
  • We design a "mini-site" for the race, including several pages on the race and the opportunity to place logos for your sponsors, as well as a race entry form. This will include up to 10,000 banners in the yellow box on our front page in a nominated period prior to the start of your event. For both the Web page production and banner campaign, the cost is US$2200 (the banner campaign alone is worth US$850). This will be published and promoted on cyclingnews well before the event starts to generate maximum publicity.
  • We build an entire site with more extensive coverage, such as complete reports, photos and MPEG videos (if supplied). This would be similar to the Commonwealth Bank Classic site, and would also include 20,000 page impressions using a logo on our home page. The price for these sites will depend on your specific needs and can be discussed on application.

*The term "CPM" has become the industry standard for purchasing banner advertisements. In this case, the character "M" is applied in the Latin usage, being "milli" for thousand. For each complete Web page which is downloaded and viewed by one of our visitors, a banner is inserted at the top of the page. The pages are counted in thousands, due to the site's traffic volume and allows a low-cost entry point.

The minimum number of page impressions for a campaign is 10,000, which equates to 10 times the CPM rate of the selected part of the site. For example, say you wanted to promote your race within the Race Listing section, where the CPM rate is US$30 CPM. The minimum cost would be 10 x US$30 = US$300, which delivers 10,000 page impressions.

If you are interested in any of these promotions, then please contact us at cyclingnews for further information.
